The profile picture is very important because when someone is looking up a company or organization, for example, the National Basketball Association, it helps to see that familiar logo so that the person knows this is the correct account. In other words, the profile photo needs to be relevant and recognizable.

Another thing that is critical to the success of your company's Instagram is the attractiveness of its content-- which Victoria's Secret has mastered. Aside from its' obviously attractive models, Victoria's Secret does a wonderful job of capturing an attractive color scheme and making their content something worth stopping for. That is what you want-- for people to STOP SCROLLING and notice what you posted.

The captions on pictures are, a lot of times, what actually gets followers to like your photo. You might have a really neat photo, but if the caption isn't clever, funny or intriguing then you might lose quite a few likes. The other key thing about captioning a post is to keep it simple. There doesn't need to be a long explanation--
people won't read it. The video attached to this caption was an average shoe commercial, but because of the clever, simple caption that makes followers feel like they are a part of a movement, the video received approximately 1.1 million views.

Audience appeal is a huge factor in the social media marketing game. If you only appeal to one type of person, you're only going to sell to one type of person. If Nike only advertised their basketball shoes, they would have never sold anything to me! The photo above is a screenshot of a recent Nike commercial advertising their recent release of sports wear hijabs for Muslim women. Nike does a very good job of advertising using all different sports, styles, and cultures. Their ability to see through any race, religion, or nationality and get down to the commonality they see in all people (the love for all different sports) allows them to sell to the most diverse crowd.

Another crucial part of running a prosperous Instagram account is community outreach. It is important to keep the community involved and make them feel like they are making a difference. Starbucks does a very good job at this with the post I have featured above. Their caption reads "With every purchase, you help Starbucks baristas earn bachelor's degrees tuition free through the Starbucks College Achievement Plan" with the hashtag #ThanksToYou. By purchasing a Grande Java Chip frappuccino, you are actually educating the youth of America. WOW! You made a difference; fulfilling, right?
