Americans are spending more time online as technology evolves to offer the world at our fingertips. Social media platforms fill our personal lives with everything from new, relationship statuses, and self-help videos. We are spending more and more time online in our personal lives, so, it only makes sense for businesses to leverage the power of Internal social networking to enhance communications and the experiences employees have at work. Many organizations are leveraging internal social networking platforms at work to offer employees the ability to connect at work the way they do at home.

  1. Internal social networking at work builds personal relationships.
Getting to know others in the organization is a great way to build trusting relationships and build team work. Having a trusting environment is the key to organizational success. By offering social media networks at work, employers are giving their employees the tools to get to know each other in a way that will improve communication and build relationships. As this article points out, it’s very important to offer employees ways to ensure they can communicate with each other in a positive and trusting way.
  2. Internal social networking at work connects people from everywhere.
Many organizations are spread across multiple locations. Internal social networks offer a great way for employees from around the world to connect. So get online and start “meeting” people from around your organization – you never know who your online path might cross with that could influence your future!
  3. Internal social networking at work provides one, consistent voice for the organization.
Communicating consistently in a global organization isn’t easy. Picture the telephone game, with messages altering a bit at each pass. Internal social networking can be leveraged by communication teams to ensure that consistent messaging is delivered to all employees.
  4. Internal social networking at work offers an endless supply of knowledge.
Working on project requires a lot, including the expertise of those involved. But, what if you (or someone in your department) don’t have the answers you need? Hop onto your internal social network and leverage the entire company, not just your office, for advice and collaboration.
  5. Internal social networking at work makes work fun again!
No one wants to be bored at work. Offering a social network offers employees a unique way to engage at work. Team activities and stories can be shared on the platform that promotes and encourages fun in the office. Internal social network platforms can help to build a more engaging environment where employees want to collaborate with each other, both in person and online.
